Installation Steps
Using the Installation Template
Materials needed for this step:
Included in the box
- • Template (D1)
- • Level (E2)
Not included in the box
- • Pencil
- • Stud finder
- • Masking tape
The template will ensure that the Powered Wall Mount aligns perfectly with your stud locations. If you do not have studs and are using only the included wall anchors (D5), or you are installing drywall backing (commercial applications), please skip steps that use a stud finder.
Step 1: Position the Template (D1) on your wall
- A. Hold the Template (D1) to your wall at the desired height and position
- B. Use the included level (E2) to ensure it is horizontally level at the desired location
- C. Ensure you have at least one foot of clearance on all sides
- D. Tape D1 to the wall using masking tape
- E. Using your pencil, mark the french cleat location from D1 on the wall
- F. Also mark 6 spots within the marked powered wall mount screw slot locations in D1 where you plan on screwing in the mounting bolts (D6). It is recommended that these 6 spots are directly on the studs; 3 on one stud and 3 on the other. If this is not possible, please mark the 6 mounting locations anywhere within the screw slot locations marked on D1 and plan on using the included wall anchors (D5) in the proceeding steps.
- G. Finally, trace the junction box outline (non-corded only)
IF YOUR UNIT IS NON-CORDED, DO NOT REMOVE THE TEMPLATE AND WAIT FOR YOUR LICENSED ELECTRICIAN TO INSTALL A JUNCTION BOX ACCORDING TO THE MARKED LOCATION IN STEP 1
Electrical Preparation
Step 2: Electrical Preparation
Plug-In Units
No action needed. Proceed to Step 3.
Non-Corded Units
After completing Step 1, your licensed electrician should:
- A. Install a standard junction box at the traced and marked location indicated by the template.
- B. Run line and neutral wires into the box.
- C. Cap unused ground wire (Knobbles does not use ground).
- D. Leave at least 6″ of wire length for connection.
Power must remain OFF at the breaker until installation is fully complete.
Mounting the French Cleat and Powered Wall Mount
Step 3: Mounting the French Wall Cleat (C1)
Materials needed for this step:
Included in the box
- • 1x French Cleat (C1)
- • 4x French Cleat Mounting Screws (C2)
- • 4x Small Wall Anchors (C3)* if applicable
- • Level (E2)
Not included in the box
- • Pencil
- • Stud finder
- • Drill and Drill bits
- A. Align the French Cleat (C1) according to where you marked the edges from the template (D1)**
- B. Level it using the included level (E2)
- C. Drill pilot holes using a Drill and Drill bit
- D. Screw 2x French cleat mounting screws (C2) directly into studs*
*If you are not using studs, please use 2x small wall anchors (C3) for this step.
**You should have already traced the location where you plan on mounting the French Cleat (C1) from Step 1E. If you have not completed these steps, please go back and complete it.
Step 5: Hanging and Mounting the Powered Wall Mount (D2)
Materials needed for this step:
Included in the box
- • 1x Powered Wall Mount (D2)
- • 6x Large Wall Anchors (D7) — if applicable
- • 6x ¼ in. Mounting Bolts (D8)
Not included in the box
- • Drill
- • Drill bits
- A. Locate the marks you made for the power wall mount slots from Step 1G
- B. If using studs, drill pilot holes using the appropriate size drill bit. If using wall anchors, use your drill and appropriate sized drill bit for the Large wall anchors.
- C. If using wall anchors, insert the 6x Large wall mount anchors (D7) into the holes. Skip this step if you are using studs.
- D. Hook the french cleat on the back of the Powered Wall Mount (D2) onto the French Cleat (C1).
- E. Insert and tighten the 6x ¼ in. mounting bolts (D8) through the Power Wall Mount slots that match with either the pilot holes or Large wall anchor holes you just drilled. You can adjust the Knobbles unit left or right to better align with studs, if necessary.
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE ¼ IN. MOUNTING BOLTS. DOING SO WILL DAMAGE THE POWERED WALL MOUNT AND/OR CAUSE A WEAK MOUNTING POINT.
Hardwired Electrical Connection
Once the Powered Wall Mount is secured:
Materials needed for this step:
Included in the box
- • 3x Wire Nuts (E3)
- • 1x Powered Wall Mount Junction Box Cover (D4)
- • 2x Powered Wall Mount Junction Box Cover Screws (D5)
Step 6: Make the electrical connections
- A. Pull line and neutral wires through the junction box opening on the Powered Wall Mount
- B. Connect the Powered Wall Mount wires to the wall connection in the junction box in the following order:
Powered Wall Mount (Black) Line → Wall Line
Powered Wall Mount (White) Neutral → Wall Neutral
- C. Secure the wire connections using two of the included wire nuts (E3)
- D. Slowly push wires back into the junction box
- E. Install the Powered Wall Mount Junction box cover (D4) using the two provided Powered Wall Mount Junction Box Cover Screws (D5)
- F. Do NOT restore power yet (this is completed in a later step)
*Note: The ground wire from the wall is not used. This wire should be capped securely using an included wire nut (E3).
Installing the Knobbles
DO NOT INSTALL THE KNOBBLES IN ANY OTHER ORDER OR ORIENTATION THAN DESCRIBED IN THE PROCEEDING STEPS. FAILING TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE UNIT OR NON-FUNCTIONALITY.
Handling Instructions
Hold each row using both hands, gripping the top and bottom edges. DO NOT lift, push, or pull a row using the knobs or the terminals. Forcing a row may damage terminals.
On either the top, back, or bottom of each row is a sticker with a row identifier labeled A1–A8 or B1–B8 and orientation arrows. These labels match the same labels for their position on the Powered Wall Mount. Slide the rows onto the Powered Wall Mount according to the exact order below — be careful not to apply excessive force to the rows when sliding and never slide the rows on the mount by the knobs. While sliding the rows on the mount, ensure that both dovetails for each row are sliding on the Powered Wall Mount.
Step 7: Align
- A. Start by positioning row A1 above its appropriate slots.
- B. The two dovetailed edges from the back of the row will slide into the Powered Wall Mount slots.
Step 8: Slide Down
- A. Apply firm but controlled downward pressure
- B. Some friction while sliding down is normal
- C. Terminals must fully seat
Row Installation Order
Repeat until all 16 rows are installed, in this exact order:
Step 9: Check Fit
A. Check to ensure there are no visible gaps between rows.
Step 10: Screw on the Powered Wall Mount Cap
- A. Place and press the Powered Wall Mount Cap (D3) on top of the Powered Wall Mount (D2) so that the notches are fully seated in the powered wall mount.
- B. Insert and screw the 6x Powered Wall Mount Cap Anti-Tamper Screws (D6) into corresponding holes using the Anti-tamper screw driver (E1).
